A chromatic shunt is an exotic form of the standard shunt manoeuvre that in addition to changing the target's location also imposes a colour variance upon it. Arthur Cripplehead proved in one of his earlier papers that a pickering is in fact the cross product of a stationary and a chromatic shunt, provided that Ould's inclination is the same for both.
