Kobolds of Kalchichi
From RPGwiki
[edit] Description
Kobolds are small, wiary reptilian humanoids, common in Kalchichi and the places it has invaded. They have long, digitigrade legs and thin tails which they use for balance or to display emotions. They have fine scales, and colours can be any of red, green, brown, orange, or black. Most kobolds are of a single colour, but a few aretwo tone, a trait that attracts admiration and scorn in equal measures. Eye colours are usually red, yellow, green or blue. Typical life expectancy is around 150 years, baring accidents or being part of the The Zaphor Triad. Kobolds speak their own language, Kalchichu.
Reptiles aren't as common on the Fourth World as they used to be, so it was no greate surprise to scientist when the archeological evidence suggest that the first prekobold, Koboldus Errectus, evolved during the Draconic Epoch. Most experts point out that the fosil evidence of this species is very wide spread, indicating that at this point Koboldus errectus was found across most of the world. Modern kobolds seem to have evolved in Xindung, and there are no survivng prekobolds, indicating that the erruptions that ended the Draconic Epoch also killed of most of the koboldus Errectus as well.
These kobold ancestors were even smaller than their modern counterparts and appear to have been a nocturnal scavanger, indicating that they probably had some sort of temperature control mechanism that other reptiles lacked. It might have been this, coupled with their wide range that allowed them to survive the first appocalypse.
One of the more unusual traits shown by kobolds is their affinity for arcane magic. While in other races wizardly/sorcerer magic is restricted to a minority, in kobolds the genetic herritage required to work magic is so wide spread that is unusual to find one who doesn't at least have the potential to perform magic.
Some people have speculated that this trait evolved to make up for the kobolds physical short comings. Others have suggested that the end of the Draconic epoch created an evolutionary bottle neck, which only the Koboldus Errectus with spellcasting abilities survived. This would require that the prekobolds were already capable of using sorcery, a statement refuted by many scientist. One possible culprit might have been the floding that destroyed the Sylvanus-Khazad Empire.
Given their propensity for magic, it often surprises people to learn that the Kobolds did not invent wizardy themselves. It is perhaps their very skill at magic that prevented them from taking this set. With so many sorcerers available, it did not matter is a spellcaster did not know a particular spell - most likely he had a friend who did. However, amongst other races who might have only a single spell caster in a community, it was desirable for that caster to be able to perform as wide a variety of tricks as possible.

[edit] Kobold Feats
These feats are associated with the kobold race. Most of them reflect their particular affinity for arcane magic. They might, in exceptional circumstances be found amongst other races.
[edit] Arcane Dabbler
The theory of arcane spell casting, both sorcerus and wizardly, form part of the national carriculum for kobold children. While not all of them go to develop the fully blown ability to cast spells, many do. This feat gives the user the ability to employ a few cantrips.
Prerequisits:Int 10 or cha 10.
Benefit: Can cast 3 0th level cantrips per day, as either a wizard or sorcerer, depending on which stat the ability is linked. Casting level is 1. Sorcerers know 3 cantrips, wizards start with 5 and can learn more. All the usual restrictions, including arcane failure for armour, apply.
