Yay double post. Anyhow, reincarnation has been hindered now, so I had another thought on this. I think they're doing it on purpose. A little closed universe on which all bugs will die eventually, and all that'll be left is some graphs of food and STD distribution.

I think it's more likely their way of controlling the system from within - that a flat "we've disabled new membership for a while" message would annoy people, but a temporary infertility disease (for which a cure might emerge later) is only annoying within the context of the game, and is couched in such a way that it's almost the player's *own fault*.

It's notable that I'm not getting "too many users connected" error messages, any more...
