A rebound is also known as a perpendicular reflection; it is a manœuvre where a player uses a physical feature of the map, such as a terminus or a conveniently-placed lateral to reverse line velocity. In some cases a high braking cost may need to be paid (this is what asbestos tokens are for); in others, the map topology may allow the manœuvre to be performed for free or nearly so. Rebounding off a terminus is a dangerous manœuvre except at low line velocities. At high line velocity a derailment or worse could occur.
