Charlotte Bronte was not reknowned for her Mornington Crescent ability. Indeed, her continued frustration and inability to grasp even the simplest traditions of the game became a major influence on her life and work. Her novels of subtle rebellion against the social mores of her age are in many ways a direct result of her departures from game rules.
Perhaps this quote best sums up her attitude to the game and, consequently, life in general: "Life is so constructed that an event does not, cannot, will not, match the expectation."
