An artificial restriction on valid moves. Examples include: Northern line only, two words only, interchanges barred, Central Line excluded, etc.

Often used as the standard conditions for a full game – in which case it is normally irrevocable – it is also possible, under rare circumstances, to play to a Coventry Block (for a number of moves specified by the initial blocker) for part of a standard game.

In the latter circumstances, the block – if not cancelled from within, by somebody who can achieve this from a station valid under the conditions of the particular block – may be bypassed only by any generic means that the player might use to bypass a loop or cascade (methods that are specific to a particular type of loop are naturally not possible.)
