A voluntary
pass, made in circumstances where the opponent is debarred from passing or in a position where it would be extremely unwise to do so, and forced to make a move away from their current position. Made popular by
Baryshnikov, who has been heard to wish there was a similar option in chess – to pass the move to one's opponent, while remaining in the same position oneself.
Often used in conjunction with the condition of Boris, where every legal move is disadvantageous.
