Named after Darvin Holfstedter, well known revolutionary 20 century artist and part time nihilist. Most people take account of their opponent's position when playing Mornington Crescent, and often attempt to use it to their advantage. The difference Holfstedter began was to play a station which would only be beneficial if an opponent played a specific move. In Darvin's case, this was normally a station on the British Rail based on the assumption an opponent would be forced to move to [West Hampstead]
?. Often the opponent would be forced to move to the desired station or destroy his entire strategy. Nevertheless, it is a risky way to play since accomplished opponents can often play an alternative move without compromising their own position.
