Podume is the old name, still frequently used, for the unit of currency in the game of Mornington Crescent. The term comes from the days when French was the language of choice among the nobility: the general populace used the English term of token. Nowadays the latter is largely – but not exclusively – the preferred term. (Note that in gambling halls, as is the case with card games, roulette, and other games of chance, the French terminology remains the preferred usage.)
